July 5th - July 8th
             Tuesday- Mixed Media painting - watercolor, ink, tempera
             Wednesday- Van Gogh inspired chalk pastel still lifes
             Thursday- Papier colle- collage
             Friday- Picasso 3-D assemblages with mixed media
July 11th-July 15th
             Monday- Color, line and shape abstract paintings with gouache
             Tuesday- Drawing and Painting Flora and Fauna of MV- detail drawings
             Wednesday- En Plein air painting with watercolors
             Thursday- Sand/ tempera painting- using sand to create textured paintings
             Friday- Scrimshaw pendants with plaster
July 18th- July 22nd
             Monday- DaVinci Plaster and Pastel Frescos
             Tuesday- Scratch art
             Wednesday- Metal tooling- inspired by Mexican tin art
             Thursday- Reverse glass painting using acetate
             Friday- African inspired Masks
July 25th- July 29th
             Monday- Monoprints
             Tuesday- Printing on Fabric
             Wednesday- Batik with glue or wax
             Thursday- Soft sculptures with fabric
             Friday- Origami Star books
August 1st-August 5th
             Monday- Sun prints- weather permitting
             Tuesday-Suminagashi prints
             Wednesday- Papermaking
             Thursday- Foam block printing
             Friday- Bookmaking-make a 3 signature book to use as a sketch book or journal
August 8th- August 12th
             Monday- David Hockney inspired landscape paintings
             Tuesday- Wayne Thiebaud- cakes and other desserts with oil pastels on canvas paper
             Wednesday-Frida Kahlo inspired self-portraits
             Thursday- Kandinsky inspired abstract paintings
             Friday- Kinetic sculptures
August 15th- August 19th
             Monday- Cezanne inspired land/sea scapes
             Tuesday- Undersea themed painting using inside of large shells as painting surface
             Wednesday- Clay Coil Pots
             Thursday- En Plein Air paintings on driftwood
             Friday- Artist’s Trading Cards

Philosophy
In my work, I try to enhance my students visual awareness, creative thinking skills, and
artistic abilities through a variety of 2 and 3 dimensional projects in a variety of medias.
I reinforce the Principles of Design through repeated challenges with an emphasis
on line, color shape, form , space and texture. My goal is to help people to be more
involved in their visual worlds.

           Print pattern blocks, color theory

           Magnification Summer fruits up close cut paper in select color schemes

          Shorebird/Fish Ink - line and texture with references to Paul Klee

          Aquatic life- Mobile with emphasis on Balance Alexander Caulder

          Mythology and the Sea Ink and wax resist with emphasis on spacial use

          Outdoor drawing large ground areas with attention to spacial division

          Magnification design and dissection of summer fruits

          Line and texture exploration of shading techniques and form

August 2nd Tuesday

August 9th Tuesday

          Outdoor drawing with attention to focus, detail and color Pastel with nod to Impressionists

August 16th Tuesday

          Whimsical painting of summer/nautical theme with nod to the primitives.
          Focus on spacial planes, balance of shapes and good composition Cahoon, Grandma Moses

Students with unpaid balances may not return to class until the balance is paid in full. All supplies provided by the MVAA.  Some scholarships available for year-round island children with financial need and demonstrated interest in art.  Please inquire.
