"Art for Everyone"

In its second floor studio space, the Gallery’s experienced artist-teachers conduct a variety of art classes each summer for children and adults, and for beginning and experienced artists.

Artist-in-Residence

Fred Messersmith is the Old Sculpin Gallery’s resident artist teaching Watercolor Classes to adults. He is the artists-in-residence at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where he served as Chairman of the Art Department from 1959-1989. He is a member of America’s oldest honorary society, the American Watercolor Society, and the prestigious Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society. He has been the artist-in-residence at the Old Sculpin Gallery since 1964, and for 10 years was its Gallery Director. His studio on the second floor of the gallery is open to all, and he is always ready to assist member artists with mat cutting, shrink wrapping, and signage for their works. Fred’s presence reminds us all that, from the start, the gallery has been dedicated to showing quality art and establishing an atmosphere of culture and learning for the island. For more information on Fred Messersmith, his work, and his biography, see Permanent Collection or Gallery Artists.
