"Art for Everyone"

In its second floor studio space, and also at the Chappaquiddick Community Center, the Gallery’s experienced artist-teachers conduct a variety of art classes each summer for children and adults, and for beginning and experienced artists.


Children’s Art Workshop

Children ages 7-12 may enjoy classes starting the week of July 5.  Classes fill up early so it is advisable to call the gallery at 508-627-4881 or email mvaa@verizon.net to reserve a spot! There is a limit of 15 children (ages 7-12) per class.  Classes are $20 per day - reservations are not accepted without payment. Download registration forms here:

Classes at Old Sculpin Gallery meet Monday through Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11am on the second floor studio, turning the large barn-like space into a whirlwind of creative excitement.

Classes at the Chappaquiddick Community Center are on Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11am.  Pre-registration is preferred, however children may be registered and payment rendered to the teacher at the Chappy Community Center, space permitting.

Fred Messersmith (1924-2009)

Old Sculpin Gallery Artist-in-Residence

Fred Messersmith was the Old Sculpin Gallery’s resident artist since 1964, teaching Watercolor Classes to adults.  He was the artists-in-residence at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida where he served as Chairman of the Art Department from 1959-1989.  He was a member of America’s oldest honorary society, the American Watercolor Society, and the prestigious Watercolor U.S.A. Honor Society.
